Highway color guide lines

Did you know that there were no colored guide lines on the road until 2010?? Even though there were navigation systems, many drivers were confused and many accidents occurred because of it,

but a public official from the road construction company solved it with a single line.

At the time, when a fatal accident occurred at the Ansan Junction, where the roads were complicated and accidents were frequent,

it is said that he was instructed to come up with measures to help elementary school students know the way.

He said that he got the idea after seeing his children drawing with crayons at home. In Korea,

colored guide lines were used in places like subways and hospitals, but at the time, the use of color was restricted by the Road Traffic Act.

However, despite this, officials in charge actively pushed for reducing accidents, and a pilot application was made at the Ansan Junction where a fatal accident occurred in 2011.

The number of accidents, which had been over 20 per year, decreased to 3. It was later expanded nationwide, and it is said that there are currently over 900 locations.

According to one statistic, accidents at highway junctions and interchanges have decreased by 27%, and at intersections in Seoul, they have decreased by a whopping 50%,

so they are called the lifeline of the road. Last May, the road construction worker who first applied colored guidance lines to roads in Korea was recognized for his achievements and received a national medal.

It seems fortunate that there are such public servants who are dedicated to the country and its people. ㅎㅎㅎㅎ
